Keywords: Task, Milestone
Task: in project planning, the most basic element. A task (or activity) describes the action that should be completed by a resource to obtain a given result.
Milestone: Tasks (or activities) with no duration. Milestones are used to indicate when an objective should be reached, or when control will take place.

Keywords: Duration, Link
Duration: time needed to complete a task
Link: describes a relation between two (or several) tasks. In most cases, it is a preceeding-succeeding relationship between two tasks

Keywords: Free slack
Free slack corresponds to the slack time which can be used without influencing the start date of other tasks.

Keywords: critical path
The longest path from the first task to the last task of the project is called the critical path, this gives the expected project duration (any task on this critical path that will be delayed will delay the whole project).
Below: the red path is the critical path.

Keywords: Effort driven
Description: An Effort Driven task indicates whether the scheduling for the task is effort driven.
Example: You have a task to create a set of architectural drawings, with a duration of 4 weeks, which is how long the task would take one drafter to complete. Because the task is effort driven, you assign four drafters to the task and the schedule of the task to be completed will be changed to 1 week.

4 planning steps: List the tasks
List the tasks of the project: you need to discard tasks which are not relevant in the planning (a project can be decomposed to a very detailed level; but at one point of time, this level of detail is no more relevant for the planning)
List the milestones.
